10th Annual Festival of Trees
December 14 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pmFree
Eastport Arts Center’s 10th Annual Festival of Trees, a festive silent auction, will be held Saturday, December 14 from 4:30-5:30 pm. “Some say that this event is what gets them in the celebratory mood for the holiday season,” notes organizer Marged Higginson.
“Between the outpouring of generous effort on the part of the incredibly creative and devoted decorators, and the ‘dig deep’ attitude of the supportive bidders, the Festival of Trees is a heartwarming experience all ‘round,” noted Lauren Koss, an EAC staff member. “And the joy of the beautiful trees extends beyond their first holiday season: what a treat, year after year, to unwrap the lovingly made ornaments from festivals past when we bring out our holiday treasures!”
This year, the festival’s ‘forest’ of trees include decorating schemes to appeal to: oenophiles, bookworms, Zentangle enthusiasts, art lovers, rock hounds, foodies, fabric art creators, aficionados of jewelry, dog families and globe-trotters.
“I enjoyed my first Festival of Trees so much that I bought not one, but two lovely trees,” said Joan Lowden, who will take a turn at decorating this year with her ‘Mardi Gras in December’ tree.
“It’s a great joy for me to incorporate pieces of jewelry beside wine corks,” said longtime festival decorator and jewelry designer David Oja, who strives to “bring the sparkling of the beauty.”
Another returning decorator, Jeanne Katkavich noted, “I am decorating a tree again because Sadi and I think a tree for dog families must be on someone’s wish list!”
Confirmed participants include these returning decorators: Cathy Moroz and Samra Kusebi; Catherine Lee; Diana Boone; Seaside Stones; Susan Weaver and Kris Smith; Peavey Memorial Library; the French Club; Kathy Lewis; Cynthia Morse; Nikki Fox; Robin Farrin; Jeanne and Sadi Katkavich; Georgie Kendall; David Oja; the Little Water Street Gang; and Quoddy Bay Lobster. Newcomers Diana Boone, Cathy Adelman, Nikki Fox, Donna Finks, Joan Lowden, Robin MacDonald, Sandy Swanson and Eastport’s Knitting Group (Mary Anderson, Jeanne Peacock, Ruth Wiens, Linda Courtney, Kathy Lewis, Paula DeFilippo, Sandy Swanson and Cynthia Morse) are gratefully welcomed to the fold.
“Come for the fun, hear some delightful music and enjoy tasty snacks, and share great camaraderie while bidding on beautiful and creative 24-inch table top trees,” said event organizer Marged Higginson. “The tree will brighten your home as well as keep the Arts Center lit up and lively this winter.”
