Haydn’s String Quartet in C Major Op.20 No.2, one of the works that led him to be dubbed the “father of the string quartet,” opens the program, while Brahms’ String Quartet No. 3 in B flat Major Op. 67— a bright and perfectly crafted work, and his last string quartet—closes it. Sandwiched between the two classical works is Hungarian composer Bela Bartók’s String Quartet No. 3 Sz. 85, a piece that borrows heavily from the local folk music. A reception sponsored by Shear Creations will follow the concert.
