Eastport Arts Center will offer a two-part workshop in Block Printing on Fabric on Saturday, March 2, and Saturday, March 9, from 12:30-4:30 pm. Instructors Susan Lehnen and Sasha Lehnen-Spencer will guide students in an exploration of printing on fabric using hand-cut stamps. Participants will create their own symbols to experiment with, and, in Lehnen’s words, will “play together with color and design to get a feel for these techniques and to create unique works of textile art.” The course will include discussion of textile stamping in a historical context as well as the development of symbolism within the cultures who cultivated these techniques.

EAC’s winter Open Mic series continues Saturday, March 9, from 6-8 pm. Spectators and performers of all ages are invited to the family-friendly event, which is held downstairs at EAC. All types of performances are welcome; maximum time slot is 15 minutes, but shorter acts are also acceptable. EAC will provide a small sound system, and all interested in performing can sign up upon arrival at the event. Eastport Family Pharmacy and new sister business, Machias Family Pharmacy, are sponsors of the March Open Mic. Pharmacist Ben Okafor, who opened Eastport Family Pharmacy in 2014, added the Machias location to help fill the need for a small, local pharmacy experience in the “shire town,” as well as to provide a larger group of customers with the pharmacy's signature delivery service.
