Do you know of kids who are interested in survival skills?  Get them out of the house this February Break for a “Kids Winter Survival Day.”  On Wednesday, February 20, join DLLT Deputy Director Colin Brown for a wintry excursion into the Downeast Lakes Community Forest.  Hands-on lessons will include snow shelter construction, fire building, navigation, wild edibles, and more!  This class is intended for students in grades 4-8, and kids should bring a lunch, water, and dress warmly for the weather.  Parents must pre-register their child(ren) for this unique opportunity.  To pre-register, please contact DLLT at (207) 796 – 2100, or email info@downeastlakes.org.  This program has an inclement weather date of February 21.

A community sing-along to benefit “Labor of Love” food pantry.
February is a time when the monthly “Chantey Sing” has several themes to choose from, so we’re putting in traditional ballads of sailors and their sweethearts for St. Valentine’s Day, chanteys of African-American sailors for Black History Month, and songs of life-saving at sea to honor those who dedicate their lives to saving the lives of others. Led by “From Away Downeast,” with banjo, fiddle, concertina and guitar, many of the songs have rousing easily learned choruses for all to join in singing songs that will give us a warm feeling - - - and Spring will be only a month away. Admission is by boxed food, canned food, or monetary donation to “Labor of Love,” a community not-for-profit all-volunteer organization that brings food and warmth to families in our communities.
