Michael is reserving summer in Lubec, Maine, to offer en plein air workshops. Both oil and pastel are welcome, and every level of student, from beginner to advanced, will benefit from his classes. Occasionally, he will offer a special week for mentoring intermediate to advanced students. This is noted on the schedule. Four half-day session, small classes, and no minimum number of students.

Who doesn't love getting a letter in the mail? And what if the letter is also a book?! Join us to explore mail art techniques using collage, washi tape, and whatever else we can find to create unique pieces of art to send to a treasured friend (or yourself). This is one of three sessions, but you do not have to attend all the sessions.

Opening Reception: Collections of John C. Fitzpatrick.

“Passionate Observer” will feature selected works from the significant collections of John Fitzpatrick, a part-time resident of Eastport. Fitzpatrick has collected work over his lifetime, building on collections started by his grandparents and great-grandparents, who fostered his interest in studying and collecting works of art. The exhibition will include works from a wide range of eras including prints and drawings by artists such as James McNeil Whistler, 19th century portrait paintings and 20th century photographs by Carl Van Vechten, a patron of the Harlem Renaissance, and other items that are works held in trust for the Tides Institute & Museum of Art (TIMA) or have already been gifted to TIMA.

Concert Series presents Annual Young Persons’ Concert

On Friday, August 31 at 7 pm, EAC’s 2018 Concert Series will conclude with the annual Young Persons’ Concert. A tradition of more than 20 years, the concert features talented young performers from all over Washington County in a program that is an engaging mix of genres, instrumentation and styles. Each year, attendees come away delighted with the inspiring display of young talent, and these emerging musicians have an opportunity to build their poise on the EAC stage with a warm and friendly house of fans. Tickets for the show are $5; attendees 17 and under will be admitted free of charge. A reception will follow the show with refreshments provided by the R & M IGA. Tickets are available for purchase via the events calendar at eastportartscenter.org, or at the EAC box office one half hour before each performance.
