Michael is reserving summer in Lubec, Maine, to offer en plein air workshops. Both oil and pastel are welcome, and every level of student, from beginner to advanced, will benefit from his classes. Occasionally, he will offer a special week for mentoring intermediate to advanced students. This is noted on the schedule. Four half-day session, small classes, and no minimum number of students.

All Eastern European countries have at least some tradition of music and dance, usually celebrated by a Sunday Afternoon “Hora” (or dance) in the town square. Come learn these dances to exciting Greek, Romanian, Bulgarian and Israeli music. Everyone, including beginners, is welcome to come and explore this great tradition. By donation. On August 30, Downeast Lakes Land Trust is pleased to host Jane Crosen for an interesting look at the Downeast Lakes region. An editor and cartographer, Crosen’s artistic maps have always been a favorite of Mainers, and can be found in all corners of the state. With numerous inter-connected lakes and streams and rolling hills, the areas surrounding Grand Lake Stream are fascinating from a topographical standpoint. Join us for an evening of images and stories from a decade of medical volunteering and birding covering the four corners of Africa. A visitor to Africa since he was 16 years old, Ken has returned annually in recent years as a medical doctor in rural Uganda and to partake in birding safaris around the continent. He has been birding since he could hold a pair of binoculars, and both his birding and his photography skills are superb – you won’t want to miss this unique travel experience! Admission by donation. Led by Dr. Ken Edwards, an Emergency Physician, long-time summer resident, photographer, and naturalist.
