Greenhorns is pleased to present our first sail training program, a follow up on Maine Sail Freight project, which brought us to Maine! Starting at Liberty Hall in Machiasport and visiting islands, coves, and historic sites while immersing students in the wild coastal ecology of Downeast Maine, this ten day course offers a birch bark crafting workshop, traditional seamanship training and all sorts of naturalist adventure. Yes, you will learn to row and sail aboard the 18th-century Bantry Bay gigs.

On Friday, August 24th, Downeast Lakes Land Trust welcomes Art Wheaton, as he presents his new book, “Grouse Country: Gunning with the Old Pats Society.” A longtime friend of DLLT and President of the Woodie Wheaton Land Trust, Art is a Registered Maine Guide and spends summers in Forest City. He is currently a Field Editor for Ruffed Grouse Society Magazine, is published in Double Gun Journal, Sporting Classics, and Shooting Sportsman magazines as well as in the books, “A Passion for Grouse”, “Classic Deer Camps,” and forewards in “The Art of Remington,” “History of Remington,” and “Field to Feast”. The Eastport Arts Center’s concert series continues at 7 pm on Friday, August 24 with pianist Mira Gill, who will give a program spanning a century and including Ravel, Chopin, Liebermann and Barber. A reception sponsored by Moose Island Bakery will follow the performance. Gill describes the Ravel piece she’ll play, Jeux d’eau, as being “as near to a liquid state as music could ever achieve.”
