Over the course of the past twenty-three years, this workshop has gained a national reputation as the place for singers to come for an intense, artistic growth experience. Our workshop seeks to bridge the gap between voice student and young professional. The faculty works as a team to guide each of the eighteen singers towards being a more polished and free artist. The workshop is process oriented and while there is no public performance, scene study and masterclasses provide vehicles for new concepts.Find out more »
Throughout July and August, Downeast Lakes Land Trust offers free, educational activities and lessons for children ages 6-10. Tuesdays, from 9:30 am – 12 pm, bring the kids to the Grand Lake Stream School Building ready for outdoor activities, rain or shine! Each week features a specific topic that builds appreciation and awareness of the natural history of the Downeast Lakes region.Find out more »
Eastport Arts Center’s Summer Workshop Series, with offerings on summer Tuesdays from 1-3 pm, will feature Underground Railroad Quilts with Lane Willey on July 24. Willey, an experienced quilter, became interested in the Underground Railroad about 13 years ago and followed the trail from Georgia to Maine. Her research turned into a book, the historical fiction novel Whittled by Time, and the making of the Underground Railroad quilt, a fascinating map that led many slaves to freedom. Participants in the workshop, which is for ages 8 and up, will create their own underground railroad quilted potholder, and learn about the importance and history of this unique form of communication.Find out more »
The Zen DownEast Sangha meets Tuesday evenings at the Downeast Massage Therapy building at 848 U.S. Rte 1, Pembroke, Maine. Meetings always include Zen meditation and Zen liturgy You are invited to attend all or any portion of the activities—whatever works for your schedule and inclination. We sit 25-minute periods, and do a few minutes of walking meditation between periods. The sitting starts formally at 6:30 pm and ends at 7:30 pm, though you are free to leave at any time. We also offer drop-in classes on the writings of Zen Master Eihei Dogen from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm which you are warmly invited to join at any time.
