Participants will discover material, form, and meaning by digging clay, foraging natural objects, and using an experimental solar-powered kiln. Ideal for potters, sculptors, and creators of all types, this course aims to expand the connection between the artist and nature. Previous experience with ceramics is not essential, but an adventurous spirit and willingness to experiment is.

Introduction to Practical Chainmaille

Eastport Arts Center will offer Introduction to Practical Chainmaille, a workshop with Gerald Myrick, on Saturday, June 23 from 2-4 pm. Participants will learn three basic chainmaille weave patterns. Using these techniques, each participant will create three projects of their own, to include two jewelry pieces and one home decor item. Myrick is lead designer for Coastal Whims, crafting beautiful jewelry from locally found materials. A self-taught artisan experienced in a variety of metalsmithing techniques, Myrick’s other varied talents include 15 years of being an instructor during his military career. After a decade teaching the craft of warfare he now takes pleasure in the knowledge that he helps to add a bit of beauty to the world.
