Take a course this Spring / Summer and learn about the magic, fun and stories associated with folk art and how to express them in a work of art. Learn to tell a story in a painting – then tell the story. Beginners to experts – this is a different way of thinking and musing. Course paintings will be acrylic on canvas. Great drawing skills are not necessary but a sense of humour is. This is not your typical folk art.

Eastport artists Peesh Rewak McClanahan and Lora Whelan will have a two-person show at the Eastport Arts Center’s Washington Street Gallery for the month of June that explores the expansions and contractions found within harmony and disharmony. Through the use of single and mixed media, including acrylic and oil paints, pastels, graphite and collage, paintings will range from Whelan’s exploration of endangered species and the factors contributing to their decline to Rewak McClanahan’s exploration of how music, human and otherwise, unites harmoniously but also has discordant features that add to the whole experience for the musician and the listener. The show will run from Saturday, June 2, through Saturday, June 30, with a reception on Sunday, June 10, from 4-6 p.m. Music will be performed by Ted Rewak and refreshments will be available. The artists will speak briefly about their paintings starting at 4:15 p.m.
