First Show of the Season – Opening Reception

June 2 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Grand Manan Art Gallery, 21 Cedar Street
Grand Manan Island, New Brunswick E5G 2C3 Canada

The Grand Manan Art Gallery is pleased to announce the first show of our 2018 season, which will run June 2-21, featuring Cathy Love and the Grand Manan Community School. New Brunswick native Cathy Love grew up in St. Martin’s where the Bay of Fundy “drew me in to her magic spell at a very young age.” For the past 30 years Cathy has spent part of each summer on Grand Manan finding joy in beach walks and taking in the sights, sounds and smells of this island place. It is her hope that as you view her photos, “You too will find your love of this glorious experience of life.” The main body of work from the GMCS students is called Tidal Resonance –a project exploring memory and tide and their similarities. This is the basis of an Artist in Residence program. Artist Amy Ash worked with art students from grades 10-12 for two weeks, along with their teacher, Sara Griffin. Amy's interest in experimentation and her fascination with learning, memory and belonging are evident in the work. The students were introduced to a number of new processes which are easy to layer and overlap, just as memory does.
