Painting with Wool: A Felting Workshop with Audra Christie

May 6 @ 12:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Eastport Arts Center (EAC), 36 Washington Street
Eastport, ME 04631 United States

Eastport Arts Center will offer a felting workshop with Audra Christie on Sunday, May 6, from 12:30-4:30 pm. One of the oldest fiber crafts, felting is a process by which objects are made with wool fibers. There are two types: needle felting (a dry process) and wet felting. Christie will instruct participants in both wet felting and needle felting in the workshop, which is titled ‘Painting with Wool.’ Attendees will create a handmade sheet of felt with needle-felted embellishments; the resulting wool painting will be suitable for hanging or to make into a throw pillow. The workshop is great for beginners and those who already have some felting experience; Christie notes that some upper-body strength will be needed for the scrubbing process of wet-felting.

Beatriz at Dinner

May 6 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
W.C. O’Neill Arena Theatre, St. Andrews, ME United States

This Trump-era satire features a culture clash involving a middle-aged, working class Mexican immigrant going head-to-head with a rich, bilious, selfish real estate tycoon who proudly skirts the law. Beatriz, played by Salma Hayek, an immigrant from a poor town in Mexico, has drawn on her innate kindness to build a career as a holistic health practitioner in Los Angeles. Doug Strutt, played by John Lithgow, is a cutthroat, self-satisfied billionaire. When Beatriz’s car breaks down, these two opposites meet at a dinner party, their worlds collide, and neither will ever be the same. (USA, 82 min., 2017, rated R).
