The Sunday Afternoons at the EAC series, a winter offering of informal and interactive programs every Sunday at 3 pm at Eastport Arts Center, will feature a presentation by EAC’s Children’s Theater Workshop (CTW) on April 8. The group has launched its third production season with an original interpretation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, which will appear on the EAC main stage this spring. Meanwhile, weekly meetings aim to hone the young performers’ skills and cultivate a Bohemian outlook on the world. For the Sunday series appearance, the group will take audience members backstage to understand the techniques and strategies used to generate new dramatic ideas. Representatives of the CTW troupe will perform a few favorite skits and then describe how they came into being, usually through many cycles of experimentation and improvisation. The role and value of theater arts in the lives of CTW members will also be discussed.

The St. Andrews Film Society Presents: “I, Daniel Blake” (UK, 2017)

April 8 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
W.C. O’Neill Arena Theatre St. Andrews, ME United States + Google Map

Winner of the Palme d'Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, I, Daniel Blake is a gripping, human tale about the impact one man can make. A gruff but goodhearted carpenter is a man out of time: a widowed woodworker who's never owned a computer and living according to his own common sense moral code. But after a heart attack leaves him unable to work and the state welfare system fails him, the stubbornly self-reliant Daniel must stand up and fight for his dignity, leading a one-man crusade for compassion that also will transform the lives of a struggling single mother and her two children, as they navigate their way through the impersonal, Kafkaesque benefits system. With equal amounts of humor, warmth and despair, the journey is heartfelt and emotional until the end. (UK., 100 min., 2017, rated R).
