Sunday Afternoons at the EAC presents: Kris Paprocki, ‘I Hear Washington County Singing’

January 21 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Eastport Arts Center (EAC), 36 Washington Street
Eastport, ME 04631 United States

The Sunday Afternoons at the EAC series, a winter offering of informal and interactive programs every Sunday at 3 pm at Eastport Arts Center, will feature local music educator and musician Kris Paprocki on January 21. Historical and traditional music of Downeast Maine will be the focus of Paprocki’s presentation, titled “I Hear Washington County Singing.” In the past working men and women wrote, sang, and recited songs and poems describing their everyday lives. For lumbermen, fisherman, and sailors, singing was a social activity and major pastime. Paprocki has researched extensively to find songs and poems written in Washington County. Singing and playing guitar, fiddle, and button accordion, Paprocki will perform a hymn which comments on the occupation of Eastport by the British, a song written by a poacher in the Machias jail, dance tunes from an Addison fiddler, and poems of coastal life set to music.
