Sunday Afternoons at the EAC presents: a Staged Reading of T. S. Eliot’s ‘The Cocktail Party’ by the Lubec Campobello Community Theatre

March 17 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

The Sunday Afternoons at the EAC series, a winter offering of informal and interactive programs every Sunday at 3 pm at Eastport Arts Center, continues on March 17 when the Lubec Campobello Community Theatre will present a staged reading of T.S.Eliot’s The Cocktail Party. Written in 1949, the play, which Eliot bills as a comedy,  is about the absurdity of the intersecting lives of a group of people. On a more profound level, it reveals the complexity of human experience and  relationships. Readers include: Peter Frewen, Bernard Bourque, Doug Goodman, Will Bradbury, Suzannah Gale, Rachel Rubeor, Helen Swallow and Sarah Dalton-Phillips.

Director Sarah Dalton-Phillips says she chose this play for a couple of reasons: she has loved T.S. Eliot for more than half a century, and having worked with this group of actors on two previous productions, she wanted to offer them (and the audience) something challenging. The reading will be presented with one brief intermission, and refreshments to follow. Dalton-Phillips also notes that an encore performance will be presented at the Lubec Memorial Library on Saturday, March 23 at 2 pm.

Sunday Afternoons at the EAC programs are held downstairs at the EAC. Hot drinks and refreshments are offered; donations are gratefully accepted. The series will run through April, skipping Easter Sunday. For more information, and to view the updated series schedule please visit The Eastport Arts Center is at 36 Washington Street, Eastport, and is handicapped-accessible.
